Filmed inside their in home studios, these hungry musicians aspire to obtain more equipment, sell their hot tracks, and, of course, make a name for themselves in the competitive music industry. The movie follows a plethora of track masters in various stages of their careers including newcomer Justin “J Dot” Moyd, a 23 year college student who nears graduation, as he assembles his production center, works with aspiring recording artists and puts together his first professional demo package. We also see a group of savvy producers combine their collective efforts called ‘Battery Five’ discuss their trials and tribulations and their relentless pursuit to create a “movement” and be recognized in such a tumultuous business. The film provides a behind the scenes forum for composers to get a lot off their chests and discuss their unbridled passion for making music all with a steadfast belief that the ‘next’ track will be the one to take them to the ‘next’ level!

Beat Makers

Wtf …dude said he was a mc 1st? Then spit an average flo I could hear at any local hip hop show outside while cats is smoking / chillin in a ciph…c’mon…
he never claimed that he was good or bad … he just said he makes music to make it … so regardless of how good or bad you think he is … he is still doin it and keepin it real way more than you are …. but i do agree with you that it could have been better, but everyone could be a little better
Analyze –
So I just spit an opinion and all the sudden Im not keepin it real? That’s comical ….
During the whole doc Im thinking …wow how he talking (which was kool) I thought he was gonna have something tight (reason to be featured in a flick) then Im like are you serious? Big ups for doing it fo sho…but don’t get it twisted..cats in this game critique..Not hating just gave an opinion. Being in a feature documentary you’d think that some skills would have to be high to make 1 watch?
i completely agree with what your saying … but where i think you are maybe confused is that you keep saying “you think he is gonna do this” or you’re thinking that he is gonna be good which means you create your own definition of what good or bad is before you even hear him … I do agree with you that for saying he was an emcee first he should have been able to come harder but at the same time he never said anything about how good he was.
Analyze –
Kool …Yeah I guess confused cause cinematic wise and the fact that it’s an in depth doc…the maker wants people to like it I hope?…Wouldn’t 1 seek the best they could find or established cats. To give more credence to it…n make some1 want to watch? I aint tying to make it a big deal man ya know….it’s just not a good look in my opinion (cause film wise it’s koo).. Especially when you can get all the same in depth looks at low, mid, and high grade producers on youtube.
Yeah i completely agree with what you just said cuz if it were me i would want to get the best of the best … but at the same time this documentary had some really good people all the way down to someone who hasn’t even produced anything yet … so i think maybe with that wide range of producers it was able to hit every single person that was trying to become or is a producer … so i think in the end we are both right
Nice documentary, but not as in depth as I was hoping. It would have been better if the distinction between “producer” and “beat maker” had been discussed. The title of “producer” inherently implies sounds are being produced, not just manipulated. Seriously, would you put Premo or Pete Rock in the same category as Isaac Hayes or Quincy Jones? Think about it. The world is full of cats who make beats, but true producers are a rarer breed. That’s my two cents anyway.
Its like this guy just bought a camera and rounded up the most annoying poeple in the world and made a documentary about them.. WHy?
Except a few, the guy with the fro was cool,.
Most annoying comment was: ‘Now I think sampling is for punks”.
That dude should be slapped every morning for the rest of his life.
Also the dude saying he was improving old school hiphop. get the fuck outta here.
I stopped watching it after giving it about 30 minutes or so.
yo never heard of any of these dudes
Check out the trailer to the Hip Hop movie “Battle” from the Director who brought you “BeatMakers”
poorly editted, but with some very good footage. Sad it was assembled this way because it’s great content, but arranged in an exremely boring way. I wished it flowed more as apposed to a bunch of interviews arranged by chapters with the same people constantly.
Oh man, where ta begin? Kinda like the first part of this doc until these lame producers started layin down their beats….So pathetic, an the funny thing is seen as the cameras are out they prob picked their “best beats” lol!!!!
The only half decent imo is green tea (who i actually thought woulda been worst)
As 4 atypik, that dude is an idiot, talkin oh cant tell ya where i got my sample from my “ancestors”…ponse! We all know ur sample is swan lake, its been dont ta bits, all u did was
take ta bass line an add weak drums over it (shadow already killed it leave it the fuck alone!!!)
As 4 that dude wit the red cap, laughed so hard at his pischer price, children type shit. Most these need ta sell their equipment ta ppl wit a clue, defo aint gonna finish watchin now….wats the point in takin advice from ppl that have no soul? peace…
What you’re reffering to with Quincy and Isaac is called “composing”. Which is creating melodies from scratch. Yes they’re both producers the proper sense as well. In popular music the producer is the one who brings the song to fruition. Sometimes this can be the beatmaker, or it can be like the case of those like Diddy who come up with ideas and hires others bring them to life for him while he retains the credit. Nonetheless, I see what you’re getting at.. but beatmaking is not an easy art.
Check out the trailer “Battle” inspired from this same documentary movie BeatMakers!
Hey nice documentary
All those years of experience between them all and not a lick of talent except green tea maybe.
These dudes are complete idiots.
funny my comments aren’t showing up? that too is typical…

Check out the narrative version of BeatMakers entitled Battle!
“Battle” the movie is offering a FREE mixtape. Feel free to download and critique here.
It’s free to download at http://www.battle-movie.com and the tracklist is at the blog
The Mixtape is Hosted by Hip-Hop Host extraordinaire: DRES THA BEATNIK
and Mixed by Reign of Terror and Psyche Origami’s own DJ DAINJA.
Both of these talented heads appear in Battle. A cameo by the great Talib Shabazz is featured as well.
Lots of Hip-Hop, an eclectic collection, some of the producers who appear in the movie are represented here like: HeadRoc (who plays the lead character Rippa), Trimm (who plays Dirty Dollar$ in the film), Rhythmlord (plays Beat Priest and is doing score for the movie), as well as Green Tea (a two man producing team that play finalists in the Battle scenes) and the actual Dirty Dollar$ (Producer Eddie Singleton’s little brother). I definitely wanted to give them a little extra shout but most of the rest are talented Atlanta underground artists as well.
This is not the official soundtrack but don’t be surprised if some of this music winds up in the movie.
Definitely download it and enjoy but be sure to pass along the FREE music link to all your friends who like Hip-Hop.
As for the progress of the film, we’re deep in post and working hard on music, sound, and fine cutting.
Thanks to everyone for their interest in the movie,
Martay
